Early End of Season

A message from the Board of Directors:

What a season it’s been! From the entire board of directors, we want to thank all of our members who rolled with the punches this year, with cancelled weeks, new distance protocols at the club, and additional health measures all in the name of slowing the spread of COVID-19.

On Monday, the Mayflower Curling Club announced that the Department of Health will begin renting the curling club April 1st for use as a testing and vaccination center. While this is an amazing opportunity for the club to recoup lost revenue from the year, it means the curling club cease curling starting on Monday, March 15th.

This news means that this Sunday, March 14th (Week 11) with be our FINAL week of curling.

We look forward to what we hope will be a more “normal” 2021-2022 curling season. Please enjoy your summer and remain safe!

Further Cancellations

Week 8 and 9 games scheduled for January 17th and 24th respectively have been cancelled. Although the Chief Medical Officer has allowed for “scrimmages”, the capacity of the ice shed is limited to 24 players (3 sheets), therefore does not allow for our full league.

On Sunday, the Bluenose Bonspiel organizing committee made the very difficult decision to cancel the 2021 bonspiel and Canadian Gay Curling Championships.

Although we’re disappointed that our bonspiel has been cancelled two years in a row due to COVID-19, we know that our 2022 bonspiel will be nothing short of amazing. We are happy to announce that Halifax will be host city for the Canadian Gay Curling Championships in 2023!

2021 Starts with Cancellations

Today the Chief Medical Officer of Nova Scotia extended restrictions which includes no sporting games. With this extension, the Mayflower Curling Club will continue to not be allowing league games until at least January 24th. This in turn will CANCEL our skills clinic and week 8 (the first week of the second half of the season).

We hope to resume the season on January 24th with week 9.

Information will follow regarding upcoming games, extended schedule, and second half payment. Please do not pay your second half registration fees at this time.

Club Closure Extended

Last week the Chief Medical Officer of Nova Scotia announced measures to help stop the ongoing spread of COVID-19 in Halifax, which includes extending the closure of gyms and pausing organized sports for an additional week. With this extension, the Mayflower Curling Club will remain closed until December 16. This in turn will CANCEL our week 7 (the final week of the first half of the season).

We hope to resume the season on January 10th with our Skills Clinic. More information on this clinic will follow in the new year.

We hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday season.
We look forward to a better 2021.

Club Closure

Today, the Chief Medical Officer of Nova Scotia announced measures to help stop the ongoing spread of COVID-19 in Halifax, which includes the closure of gyms and pausing organized sports for a two week period. With this announcement, the Mayflower Curling Club will be closed effective November 26 for this mandatory two week period. This in turn will CANCEL our weeks 5 and 6.

A follow up e-mail will be sent advising the league of a confirmed club reopening date, and  next schedule Loose Ends curling date.

We hope eveyone stays safe.
