2025-2026 Loose Ends Curling League
History of the League
The Loose Ends Curling League began in September 2006, when a small group of LGBTQ+ curlers formed a couple of teams and joined the Friday night recreational league at the Mayflower Curling Club. This informal start marked the birth of what would become Halifax’s first and only 2SLGBTQI+ curling league. By the 2009–2010 season, interest had grown enough for the group to establish itself as an official club, securing its own Sunday evening ice time at the Mayflower Curling Club. This shift formalized the league’s structure and allowed it to expand its membership and programming. The Loose Ends Curling League followed the Mayflower to this new state‑of‑the‑art facility, beginning league play there in the 2025–2026 season, which the league celebrated as its first season in the new club with 32 teams.
From its inception, Loose Ends positioned itself as a co‑ed, beginner‑friendly, LGBTQ+ inclusive league, welcoming both queer curlers and straight allies. It quickly became a social and sporting hub for Halifax’s queer community.
